Osanga: The Acrylic Artisan
Like everyone, she has things that motivate her. When speaking on what pushes her she stated “My family is my motivator. Not the family I was born into but the one I created once I moved to the United States at age 15. Every time I have a bad moment and question my craft they are there to remind me to pick my ass back up and paint. Not completely sure if they like me sharing their names but they know how much I am appreciative of the undying support.”

Q: What do you think you would be doing if art was no option? How would that make you feel?
A: If art was not an option, I would be dead. That is all there is to it. Art keeps me sane.

Q: How long have you been doing this for?
A: I have been creating art since I can remember, honestly, it started with tracing Dragonball Z, to drawing my favorite rappers and actors. Now I combine my childhood imagery, with the way culture influences the world, to get the work I create now.

Q: What is one thing that you struggle with, with your career?
A: I struggle with balancing the work I do and promoting my artwork. As an artist, it is of course important to get a body of work completed in a timely manner. Promoting myself, finding venues and events to participate in, is more feasible.

Q: When did you know art was going to be a big part of your life?
A: I used to draw and paint my whole childhood. I used to cry and cry because I couldn’t do as well as I wanted to. I actually didn’t start to know that art was going to be a big part of my life till I was about 15, because that’s when I started to be good at it.

My name is Sherren Olivia. I am a singer-songwriter from Chicago, IL. I love music and have been singing since I was a child. I began singing in church at a young age and continued to sing throughout my life in choirs. In college, I was introduced to recording and songwriting where I started to work with other musicians. I released my first two songs in 2015 on Soundcloud. I remember hoping that song would get to 500 plays and never imagined that something I wrote in my dorm room would reach over 100,000 people.
My first album "Oasis" was released this past February 2022. My journey has just begun and I am very excited to continue growing as an artist and make more music. I want to encourage anyone who loves to make music and create art to never stop creating. Create things that you like and do not try to create for others.
