The Ghanaian Afro-Inspired Artist: Samuel Blankson

Q: What makes your art unique?

A: Because I paint my own way and try to add other African features, leave brush strokes and godlike effects to them (I make my digital art look like traditional arts)

“Art is the elimination of the unnecessary” - Pablo Picasso

I do believe in that!

Q: What do you like about having people as your subject?

A: I like weird things things that are not normal or subjects with characters that people term as the “other” in society.

Q: What materials do you like to use the most? What materials do you not like to use?

A: For now everything I do is digital I use and iPad Pro with an Apple Pencil (software; procreate) and print out on canvases when needed.

Q: What did your art look like in the beginning? What are three ways that it changed?

A:I started Pencil arts at an early stage but my Dad never liked me doing stuff like that(I was good -people said it) I got discouraged later and stopped for years ...talking about how my art was starting digitally, it wasn’t really good but I always believed in “practice makes you perfect “

Things that have changed is

*confidence

*the art of adding more details and tweaking a piece my way

*speed and the little income (from commissions) I get sometimes.

Q: What is your favorite part of the body to capture?

A: The head basically and the  curves.

Q: How do you create a smoking effect?

A: I use soft brushes and some custom brushes.

Q: What could you tell, advice to, young artists that are just starting?

A: I will always advise them to practice more, always get motivated, appreciate others art and learn to develop their skills,be creative and never hesitate to ask questions or for help!!! And in all have fun because art is a whole mood and needs the whole being to create for satisfaction.

Q: What do you think the key to art is?

A: The key to art is basically Staying UNIQUE, the ability to be VERSATILE and CREATING A DIFFERENCE!!!

Q: If you could change something in your career what would it be?

A:I would like to start traditional painting, be my own reference sometimes (the model), go to an art school to learn more (get a studio  create a website for purchasing shipping of my arts as well)

Q: Have you ever thought about collaborating with other artists? Why or Why Not?

A:I’m ever ready to collaborate with other artist because personally I like to share ideas and love to be criticized so I get better. I haven’t really done that yet.
