“I Go By The Name Red”

Q: For those who do not know who you are, how would you describe yourself and your music?

A: I go by the name RED. A nickname given to me by my father as a young kid cause of my natural red hair. I consider myself a laid back person but very passionate about the things I love. I consider the music I make to give those that listen to it the nostalgic 90s early 2000s hip hop with a twist of the new generation.

Q: Where do you get inspiration from your songs from?

A:I get inspiration from life around me. Whether that is life experiences, movies, music, and other artists. I have been blessed to receive the positive feedback and love I have been getting. So as of lately I have been drawing inspiration from the fact that I have a support system that believes in my vision.

Q: What do you think is the best song you made?

A: Hard to say, honestly I like all of the songs I have created. If I had to narrow it down to maybe a top 3 I would say “Jimmy Conway” Prod by WhitxRosx, “Shy Now” Ft Lily Rayne Prod by EemTriplin, “Gifted” Ft Rizzo Prod By HungerForceBeats. Shy Now and Gifted and both unreleased and will be featured on my upcoming project titled The Goodfellas EP

Q: What do you like about the industry that you are in?

A: Right now I am new to recording music. It has only been 7 months I have been recording and creating songs. I have very close homies that make music as well. My brothers CODEGREEN have always showed me love and support so it is dope to be able to send sounds back and forth and receive genuine feedback.

Q: What is the biggest piece of advice anybody has given to you?

A: The biggest piece of advice I received from close friends and myself. The decision to take the leap on making music and doing it because of the passion I have for it. It has been a great journey so far and I look forward to what God has planned for me.

Q: What is something that motivates you?

A: The passion for music is something that motivates me, I am a student of the game first. I still get a rush of excitement when I hear a fire beat, or if I am in the studio with friends listening to their music or creating.

Q: How have you created the following that you have?

A: In January 2019 I began posting freestyles to my IG over old school hip hop beats such as “Flava In Ya Ear” by Craig Mack and “Get Money” by Junior Mafia. My plan was to gain people’s attention with the classic hip hop instrumentals. I dropped a mixtape in June called “Pay Homage” which is a 12 track project. People who listen to the project feel connected based on the records I picked. They hear the beat and right away it is familiar to them. For example, as soon as you hear “Get Money” there is a connects right away. That record was a popular record from Junior Mafia which featured Biggie. So once people hear that beat and it is familiar to them their locked in. That is where I come in and I put my own twist on it with my bars, cadence and how I am able to switch up my flow during the songs. Since releasing that project I have received a lot of positive feedback which has been very humbling. It motivates me to want to create more.

Q: When can the public expect something new from you to come out? Any details you can provide?

A: Since dropping “Pay Homage” back in June, I have been working on my debut project “The Goodfellas EP. The release date is still TBD but it is definitely coming within the next couple months. I also plan to drop a single titled “Shy Now” Ft Lily Rayne. Recently I dropped a visual to “Flava In Ya Ear” directed By Micheal Fedele (@mfedele11). I have plans on releasing another visual in the near future also.

Q: Who is your all time favorite artist?

A: Jay-z I have been a fan since a young kid he is the definition of rags to riches. From being turned down by labels to creating his own lane with Roc-a-fella.

Q: What do you like and hate the most about what you do?

A: I enjoy making music, whether by myself or with the homies. It is always a good time, ideas are bounced around and collectively dope music is being created. I have no dislikes about what I do, maybe I will feel differently about that in the future but for right now everything is working.
