In the Feelings of Brooklyn Artist Kwoat

Q: What is the story behind your album Somewhere in my Feelings?

A: It is me carefully executing the most revisiting emotions that I felt this year. From feeling “high and hurt” to feeling like “you gotta go through God to get me”. I was not around my peers a lot. Everyone felt like I was super distant. Which I was. Not just physically but mentally I was away too. I do not know where but wherever I was, I was surely in my feelings about life, money, betrayal and family. I made it the perfect time to create.

Q: What is your goal amount of songs or albums you would like to write in your career?

A: There is really no set amount. As long as I continue to feel, I am going to always create behind that feeling. Happy, sad, bored, or disturbed. My outlet for it is music.

Q: What was your experience like at the Powerhouse Concert?

A: Super humbling! It reminded me that no matter how big I get, I will always be a proud student to the game. To physically see the faces and presences of all the people behind your favorite songs will never get old to me.

Q: If you could perform at any music festival what one would you pick?

A: Summer Fest. Without a doubt!

Q: How do you deal with your life with a large amount of followers and fans?

A: I mean, I am still human like everyone else. So I do not let it get to me too much. At any moment this can all go away. I am just thankful.

Q: What is your biggest fear?

(A): Right now, honestly. It would be if my grandmother never gets to meet my kids.

Q: What is the best and worst thing about having the following that you have?

A: It is a gift and a curse. Like, when I first started doing music, I just wanted a career. But there is a thin line between having a career and having a responsibility. People are watching me. Especially the kids. So yeah, I can do whatever I want. But the consequences will surely be done. In a way that sucks, but I can not help if others look up to me.

Q: How do you know when a song is and is not right for you to record?

A: If I am not able to create a melody to it or no ideas come to me on the first listen. Then yeah, it gets skipped. I never want to force myself into something I do not believe in.

Q: Out of all the lines and songs you wrote, so far, what is your favorite and why?

A: My favorite song by me right now is “GERDA”. It is a song that I named after my grandmother with a spin of some Kompa music. It was also the last song I wrote for the album too. After I recorded it, I knew that it was set and ready to go.

Q: How many tattoos do you have and what do they mean?

A: I usually say one because they are all connected to each other, but technically I have 16. They are mainly animal art because I love animals clearly, haha. There is no deep meaning behind them besides the fact that I think they look cool on me. I wish I had a poetic story about them.
