Dorian: Artist, Producer, Audio Engineer

My name is Dorian, I am a 26 year old artist, producer, and audio engineer from Fayetteville, NC. I have over 60 songs out and I produced/recorded a majority of them. You may not like them all, but I have something in my music for all demographics!

Q: What do you like most about producing music and working with other artists?

The thing I enjoy the most about producing is the process of creating something from nothing or from just taking a sample and adding elements to expand the sound and make it unique and different. Working with other like minded artists is always great because I’m often easily inspired if I feel that the person I’m collaborating with is nice with their craft.

Q: How do you project the idea of the way you would like a song to go?

It’s based entirely on the instrumental! I make the instrumental first and then after that I make the hook, and put the verse in between the hook. By the time I have the melody for the hook the song idea and concept is pretty much locked in but it’s all dictated by the music first.

Q: How would you describe your beats?

I would say they’re unique! I feel as though you can’t really match them up with any artist, although when people hear my music I get a wide array of comparisons which I think is cool.

Q: What part of producing a song is your favorite? What is your least favorite?

This is a tuff question, It’s pretty much a fluid motion for me. It would be hard for me to choose a specific part of the process. I would say when I’m sitting and listening to a finished song or beat that I made and I’m completely satisfied, that would be the best moment until it’s time to make another one!

Q: What makes you choose the cover photo, for your song, on social media?

I try to choose cover arts that correlate with the subject matter of the song while also grabbing the consumers attention.

Q: Who do you look up to the most, in the industry? How about outside the industry?

Inside of the industry I would say J Cole and his manager IB because they are the first ones from my hometown of Fayetteville to do music at the worldwide level. I also look up to Russ a lot. I mimicked his formula of putting out a song a week and building a base ground up and also maintaining ownership of the product. Outside of the industry I look up to Neville Goddard a lot. He’s a teacher on spirituality and metaphysics that really helped me on this journey as well.

Q: What is Goodson Records and what got you to start this?

Goodson Records is a label/brand that I started with my brother and sister as a kind of umbrella for us to release music under and gain supporters with. My brother and sister and I all make our own music but we share a label.

Q: What is your dream? What does success look like for you?

My dream is to inspire people who really love music, like love it for real, to do it and go hard. No matter what the environment of the music industry looks like or what seems cool at the moment. “Only real music gonna last. All the other b.s. is here today and gone tomorrow.”
