“Options” by Dee Gomes ft. Rasandra is the perfect Valentine’s Day anthem. This February 14th release is all about intimacy, from the detailed lyrics to the music video’s rain-drenched shots and pans of a couple in the bathtub. The man and the woman sing to each other, creating a back-and-forth dynamic that explores both their sex life and their past challenges. The video is full of slow shots of hands running across skin, intense, sustained eye contact, and removed clothes: “Let me lick all on your body / Got me like a Maserati.” Aligning with the lyrics, the visuals exude both a romantic and sensual vibe, from the close-ups of foam in the bath to the purple- and blue-lit backdrop of the rain. Each scene is more intense than the last—at one point, Rasandra’s smooth vocal’s take over and she moves on her hands and knees, dressed in lingerie, while rain drenches her skin.

The overt sexual lyrics are also coupled with reflections about the relationship at the center of the song: “But you became my number one option / You know that I’m ridin’ with you regardless.” There’s a sense of commitment, but also a willingness to “drop” it if it doesn’t work out. Both parties have “options,” as the song’s title suggests, but nevertheless, they’re choosing each other first. While it might not be the story of a longstanding commitment, there’s a vulnerability in the lyrics that speaks to the push and pull of modern relationships. The spinning camera over the bathtub at the end of the video, as the lyrics slow and fade out, creates disorientation for the viewer. Just in time for Valentine’s Day, this song gives you something to get lost in.
