New York Rapper: Cam Blair

What’s good y’all I go by the name of Cam Blair and I’m gonna be answering a few questions today.

Q: Where did the inspiration for Rain Dance come from?

Rain Dance is a song about a guy who’s reached a certain level of popularity but hasn’t realized it until a girl that he’s never met shows him.

Q: How is it like being an artist from Queens?

Being from Jamaica, Queens, New York everybody is either an athlete, a trapper, a scammer, or a banger. I fell into most of those categories chasing money. The best thing is that I’ve experienced more things than a normal kid growing up, so that gives me that versatile edge when it comes to music. And everybody knows the best rappers come from Queens.

Q: When did you make music a part of your life and take it seriously?

Yeah, when I was away at college I decided it’s time to take music seriously. I was doing things that ended up putting some heat on me, so I decided it was time for a change. I always used to freestyle in middle school and in high school but I never took it seriously. After I recorded my first song which was recorded in one of my friends’ closets, the rest was history.

Q: What got you started with music, any specific instrument?

I love instrumental music. I started off playing the drums and the saxophone, it’s always had a special place in my heart. The marriage of rapping and beautiful instruments such as the violin and clarinet is such a masterpiece and I hope to incorporate more of that in the future.

Q: Why do you think social media is so important?

Social media in this era is essential for building a career. You can be the best rapper and no one will ever know if they don’t can’t find you on social media, that’s just the reality of today’s music. A lot of hit songs wouldn’t have become hits without social media, it’s turning into the new radio.

Q: What have you been working on?

I’ve just been hitting the studio hard and stacking up on songs. I’ve been working on a project, but for now, I’m just gonna drop singles to get the people moving.

Q: What would you say is your biggest accomplishment?

My biggest accomplishment so far is probably a show that I sold out. Although it was a small venue, being able to sell out a show in the beginning stages of my career is something I can appreciate and I only hope to do bigger.

Q: If you could work with anybody in the industry, who would it be and why?

I would love to get noticed by Kanye West because he’s a musical genius not only on the mic but as a producer as well. As a producer, he produced most of The Blueprint by Jay-Z and fueled the Roc-A-Fella empire. I would love to lock in with Kanye and go crazy on one of his productions.
