Meet Waymi who is a Pop, dance, RnB, and Afropop musical artist from Nigeria.

Q: How long have you been building your career in the music industry? How have things changed for you, over this time?

Professionally I started last year when I launched my first music release in August 2021. Since then, I have witnessed a lot of changes in the music industry. My first release has about 18k streams and so far I have a monthly listeners of 215. Before my first release, I have been doing music since 2004 in my university days.

Q: What made you want to collaborate with the artists you collaborated with, like on the song “Pre”?

I like working with other professionals. I like the infusion of other styles and cultures into my vocals. This is what made me collaborate.

Q: What does collaboration mean for you? What are some important things to keep in mind when collaborating with different artists?

Collaboration exposed me to how other people create their crafts. It also exposed me to different styles, genres, dialects, etc.

Q: What do you like most about being a musician and an artist? What is something you dislike, if there is anything?

What I like about being a music artist is the soul-driving passion, it is a die-hard passion.

Q: How did you feel when you first heard a song, you made, on the radio?

Like a dream coming true.

Q: Do you think radio play is important? Why or why not?

Radio play is one of the most essential tools to get with a wider audience.

Q: Are there any people that tried to connect with you, that surprised you? Who was it?

Connecting with my present executive director, was mind-blowing for me. He made me believe my voice is one of the best he has ever heard. This was like a surprise!

Q: What do you look for, when looking for a producer for your music?

A producer who can deeply connect with my craft.

Q: Has anybody given you a piece of advice or something that motivates you, that has stuck with you? If so, what was it?

My first Nigerian producer made me believe my voice is unique and extraordinary.

Q: How do you balance your career and your day-to-day life?

I work for myself for my daily life. So it’s easy to create.
