I am Kenn Igbi, an indie/hip-hop artist and producer born and raised in Houston, TX but currently based out of Brooklyn, NY.

Q: Who is your favorite Indie Artist? What do you like about their music?

Kennigbi

A: Choker. He is a bit indie and a bit r&b/soul. His music is very ethereal and sometimes minimalistic. And the way he arranges his songs, from the slight beat changes to the flow switches, it is really unique and unpredictable. And like me, he produces himself too. He is just really fun to listen to.

Q: What is the Black Creatives Program that you got chosen for, from TikTok? What was the process of applying for this?

A: It is a TikTok accelerator/incubator program designed specifically for up-and-coming and promising black creators on the platform. I found out about it while being on the app itself. There was an online application, open to everyone, that included a creative video submission portion as well. I honestly did not expect to get chosen but grateful that I did.

Q: What do you like the most about creating TikTok’s? What kind of videos do you make?

A: It challenges and pushes me creatively. Each post is almost guaranteed to be seen by people who have no idea who you are on top of the fans who do, so it really becomes a game of learning how to capture people's attention and make them care about what you do or have to say. All my TikTok videos in some shape or form incorporate music I have either written, produced, or remixed usually coupled with some basic film editing skills. More recently I have been drawn to the idea of using my music and film skills to tell more stories.

Q: What does the phrase “Black Excellence” mean to you?

A: It means thriving and excelling in spite of things that can hold Black people back.

Q: What is the best way to keep your fans interacted and to get people to follow you?

A: Although it never hurts to always be putting out interesting and engaging content, but I think even simpler than that the key is in interacting with them. Whether it is responding to direct messages and comments or going live and talking directly to fans. You have to give fans and everybody else a chance to get to know you and a reason to care.

Q: Where did you get your glasses from? They are definitely dope!

A: I get this question a lot haha! I bought them like 3 yrs ago before I officially got into music but was going to open mics and wanted something cool to wear lol. They were from this random retailer who sold steampunk-themed stuff through Amazon. They stop selling them though, at least the ones I wear, they're definitely similar glasses still sold on there though.

Q: What is your “end goal” in your career?

To have the type of career where I can make the type of art with insane budgets, revolutionary statements, and kind of legendary status.

Q: What is your favorite song and video that you have created so far? What makes these your favorite?

I do not really have a favorite. I am an overthinker so most of the time I am actively trying not to look back at things I already put out and just try to keep growing and moving forward. If I really had to choose though it'd be the stuff I have not even put out yet.

Q: How would you describe your “vibe”?

This is a hard question for me to answer lol but I guess you could call it low-key and creative.

Q: Random Question: If you had all the money in the world, what is the first thing you would do?

Fund/Create every positive social program, initiative, or public system the government doesn't or does not fund adequately enough.
