Q: Where did the name ambient queen come from?

A: Ambient Queen is my Instagram name. I wanted to select a social media handle that resonates with my values. I am attracted to nostalgia and melancholy and saw that ambience covers the spectrum of both concepts. My stage name Angel Star was what I was going to be named as a baby, but it also most importantly aligns with my values of helping people and making the world a better place through what I enjoy doing. Star also stands for self-transcending all realms.

Q: What does art mean to you?

A: Art to me is a basic yet necessary form of human expression. What makes art so unique is that, regardless of language, it can be universally understood with its intention and mood. Art has always meant so much to me, ever since I was a young child. For instance, I used to draw trademark symbols on imaginary inventions and sing karaoke all day in living rooms. They say when looking for your passion, look back at what you did most as a child. I was heavily artistic and that was the part of me I always retreated back to throughout my growth.

Q: If you could describe you and your art in three ways what would it be?

A: If I could encapsulate my art using three adjectives, it would be atmospheric, meaningful, and impactful. I like to put a lot of depth or emotion into my songs. Whether they have an uplifting or melancholic mood, I like to put my overtones of ambience to tie it all together. In pertinence to meaning, I like to also put a lot of substance into my songs. They do not always mean what they appear at face value. A lot of my songs seem to be told from a romantic standpoint, but in actuality, it’s often in perspective of my higher self speaking to my lower self. After all, most say that romantic connections and relations in general are reflections of ourselves. I like to make my messages relatable for everybody, and even more astounding to those fans who look deeper in between the lines. Finally, I chose impactful because I love moving and inspiring people through knowledge. Words are powerful, especially when utilizing melodies.

Q: What do you want the public to know about your music?

A: I want the public to know of the deep intention that my music has. I want people to escape to my music, I like letting it move them, help them, and inspire them strongly.

Q: What are you working on to release this year?

A: You will see...However, overall, I do have content coming soon.

Q: Who is your biggest inspiration in the industry?

A: PARTYNEXTDOOR for sure. The depth in his music is absolute prodigy material. There was even this article that I read one time; it brilliantly described how he purposely shifts his melodies up and down semitones in order to yield that other-worldly effect that people love and search for.

Q: What do you look for in regards to deciding what beat to use?

A: I am extremely selective when choosing a beat. The number one thing I look for is melody. Melodies set most moods and tones for sure. That is often the first thing beat makers might lay out in their DAW, as well. I also look for the atmosphere. I notice BPM affects my vocal output, so I look into those details, as well.

Q: What do you like to do during your free time?

A: I usually like keeping busy and productive. Otherwise, I will try to go outside, socialize after a recharge, or go for a drive to eat. Anything that I feel my body and mind needs at the moment. Usually, I will try to make something happen out of free time, such as going to the gym with a friend or turning a hangout into a collaboration.

Q: What is the best way to express yourself personally?

A: Through my music, no doubt. I am not the type to be emotional, but in my music every possible emotion just releases. In terms of regular communication, I am definitely an “in real life” type of female or even FaceTime. Texting is not my thing. I think it was hard at one point because my life had shifted so much. Living on my own at twenty, paying all my expenses and just graduating at twenty-one. A lot has gone on.

Q: Who is your favorite artist of all time, out of all the mediums of art out there? (i.e dancer, singer, painter, photographer, etc.)

A: Still, PARTYNEXTDOOR. All the way.
