Getting to Know Alexis Renee

Q: What inspired you to not only just sing but create your own music and write?

A: It kind of all happened at once, as a kid. I always thought that every artist wrote their own music when I was younger so I started early. It ended up being something that helped get into so many doors that I may not have been in if I did not write.

Q: What was the process with you being a founding member of Timbaland’s Platform?

A: I released a few freestyles and Timbaland started to post me rapping to his beats and shared his platform with me. A few days later I got a call to get in zoom with his team at BeatClub to join. It was a really quick process.

Q: How do you feel about working with some big names in the industry? When and how were you introduced?

A: The first big name that REALLY embraced me and showed love was Jazze Pha. We were in the studio a lot over the the past few years and he gave me the motivation to keep doing the music.

Q: What is the process for you writing a new song? Do you already have something written before you hear a beat or do you prefer to hear the beat and then write?

A: I may have ideas that I get throughout the day as far as a topic is concerned. But the actually recording process is me hearing a beat that I connect to and recording a mumble track (reference) of the melody. That helps me get the emotion out. As soon as I get the emotion down I can find the lyrics.

Q: What is a strength and weakness you possess in your career?

A: I am sure there are many but being independent, consistency has been a big weakness. Because at any given moment, something in life can throw me off course and impacts my productivity. But my strength is I always come back two times harder.

Q: Where did the idea for the video for your song Privacy? How does working on a video differ from working on the song? Which is harder? Why?

A: I wrote the treatment for privacy and all of my other videos. I think a video is more difficult because there are so many different moving parts. You have to worry about hair, makeup, scheduling, the videographer etc. when I am recording it is just me.

Q: If you could work with anybody or any company who would it be and why?

A: I would love to work with Kehlani! And of course Jayz, Drake, Tpain, Beyoncé! A lot of people.

Q: Where did the idea come from with making clothing around a project you did? How about the design, how did you come up with it?

A: My clothing brand is based on my label. Got the logo and everything designed years ago and just started to monetize some of the brand wear as I drop music.

Q: Would you ever create more clothing? If so what would you do?

A: Of course, but I would really want to team up with someone that has a passion for clothing so that they can focus on it more than I can.

Q: What was your experience with getting featured on the new 2k game? What was the process? How does it make you feel? What is the significance behind the song chosen?

A: With everything there’s a little bit of luck included but it is our job (my team) to make sure everything is where it needs to be sonically. After that we release it and do the things that we need to do, but the results are not completely in our hands. So just knowing that my song was what they wanted to hear at the right time. It is definitely something That I have always wanted to do. I remember a friend of mine had landed a song on GTA some years back and I would think “That’s crazy, I would love to do something like that” and it happened.
