AJ Bray; Musician
My name is AJ Bray. I’m a musician and I’m fye.
Q: What can you tell the public about the song Energy? From start to finish with the song and then the video.
I made that song about a year ago. Found the beat on youtube and made the song right then. Had it sitting on my laptop then randomly remembered it while I was going through my music and called my videographer and we shot the video the next day.
Q: What do you like the most about collaborating with other artists? What made you want to collaborate with Brooklyn Michelle in Dangerous?
I lowkey hate collaborating with other artists. I have very very few features on my songs in my discography. Brooklyn is someone I met and we became genuine friends and when I made my part of Dangerous I knew she’d be able to kill it so I sent it to her.
Q: What is the realist thing somebody has told you, that you have kept in the back of your mind?
Tory Lanez told me if I don’t put in my 10,000 hours working on my craft I won’t make it. Since that day there hasn’t been a day I didn’t work on music and that was about 7 years ago.
Q: How has the influence of music been like in your life? What really got you started and who helped you?
My homeboy Tevon started rapping in about 2014. I kind of asked him to hop on a song as a joke. He really encouraged me to and so I did it and fell in love and haven’t stopped since. I owe it all to him.
Q: Who would you like to collaborate with in the future? Why?
Drake because he’s the GOAT. Partynextdoor because he makes music I strive to make. And Baby Smoove cause he talks shit and I talk shit.
Q: What is the story behind your lyrics, is it a story or real-life experiences?
All my lyrics are about real life. I freestyle my music so it’s whatever comes to mind. Either something that happened to me previously, my feelings currently...or what imma do tomorrow.
Q: How do you come up with the ideas for your videos? What is the process of making your videos?
Basically, I get a song and come up with an idea. Then I send it to Trent (PSDNYM) my videographer. He tells me his idea. We combine them and then we go and come up with a lot on the spot. Pretty similar to how I record music. I like to move based on feelings.
Q: What do you think about fashion? Do you think fashion has an influence on the music industry or vice versa?
I love fashion. Some would say I care about fashion more than music because of how much I study it. You can make the best music ever but if you don’t look the part nobody will care. Image is just as important as ya flow.
Q: What is something that you would like to challenge yourself within your career?
I would like to try to work with more artists. It’s just hard for me to trust other artists on my songs but I have to get out of that. Collaboration is key.
Q: What is your favorite song at the moment? From yourself and just something, you are vibing with.
From myself, it’s just all my unreleased music. I don’t listen to myself once the song is out I only listen to what I’m working on. Last night we shot a video for a song called “Andrew Bogut” so probably that. From another artist probably “Too Icey” by Drakeo the Ruler.
