ScHoolboy Q- “Blueslides”

The return that is needed. ScHoolboy Q is back with the artistry and the bars in his latest track release of "Blueslides" from his upcoming album, "Blue Lips."

Back in his bag, Q delivers an introspective track delving into life's personal journey where obstacles and success portray lyrics of vulnerability. As the music begins, a soulful jazz harmony begins complimented by lively piano notes, and the intro of a light, ethereal voice of Lauren Santi sings, "Lover of mine/Don't you dare walk away now/Don't leave me quite so high and dry/I hope you don't leave it all inside." While the tone of the track feels distinctive, the chorus then stimulates Q's metaphoric openness: "Blue slides, I've been slidin' through your whole shit, yeah/Presidential Rollies, I took big risks, uh/We split the profit with the people, we be all lit/Top ten, not ten, bitch, we all in." Q's lyrics emasculate his feelings towards life's difficulties, growth, and confidence; he already provides a zesty, authentic feel for listeners, making the song deliverable already in its prime.

Continuing the narrative, Q dives into a body of relatable verses as he grasps a place of solitude where controlling the mind is prominent: "Better climb out of that hole before you fuck up your blessings/'Fore you realize that it's over with and start to get dеsperate/Keep your mind, body on pressurе, give your time when it's needed.." This unfolding of vulnerability in a thought-provoking manner showcases how the artist has developed an authentic sense of growth and how he can tap into his evolution as a rapper, curating a banger and giving his fourth studio album vibes, "Blank Face." While listeners also know how close Q was to Mac Miller, it is speculated that as the overall theme of the song initiates a place of hindrance, the line, "Lost a homeboy to the drugs, man, I ain't tryna go backwards" is a sort of tribute to Miller as Q presents an overcoming tone through his difficulties in the song.

In the visual aspect of the track, Q is seen in a clean aesthetic style of videography where snippets of his upcoming album name and title pop up in blue handwritten font. Simply performing in a studio while miscellaneous images/clips appear throughout the film sets a new vibe for the artist, showcasing a well-premeditated and attention-to-detail atmosphere. The simplicity of the visual also feels personal as the song's theme translates and allows each listener and watcher to feel sorrow and pain through lyricism and the lens.

As the video ends with a semi-visual definition of the song title, "Blueslides," it is almost as if the full definition isn't uncovered. This curates an interesting ending to the film as Q's definition of the song within his verses makes the entire song and visual a storytelling marvel.

"Blueslides" is natural and full of musical artistry, unveiling Q's place of introspection, solitude, and success. While the artist prepares for his highly anticipated album, he has set the bar with the song, making the theme of the album a listen to look forward to.
