Cordae- ”Make Up Your Mind”

Taking a step out of his comfort zone, Cordae experiments with his music style by becoming versatile in a new genre in his August release 'Make Up Your Mind.' The track explores the French origin game, effeuiller la marguerite (He/She loves me, He/She loves me not), questioning whether or not a person's affection towards someone or something is reciprocal. In the pre-chorus, Cordae sings, "I said, she love me (Love me)/She love me not/But she don't got not damn clue about what she wants" which becomes the song's hook with a touch of pop in its melody.

While the song continues, the lyrics delve into the urge to identify what the female wants; hence Cordae repeatedly sings, "Bitch, make up your mind (make up your mind)/Figure it out (figure it out)." The accompanying music video is a parallel visual to the track's communication. The camera opens with a close-up feature of a light bulb inside a lamp and zooms into a bedroom setting where Cordae and his girlfriend are on the bed. This scene becomes a critical setting to the video as it coincides with where the comfortability of a relationship usually encounters a spiral of emotions. As the artist continues to sing, the video projects rotated film cuts that showcase different settings of their relationship. Each scene is in prominent places such as the bedroom, living room, and on dates where togetherness can bring happiness or irritation, "I've been so tired/She keep on pressin' me." While the variations of settings change, capturing the song's storytelling intention is straightforward, aligning both the track and video. This cohesive pattern in the visual doesn't miss the songs lyrics, especially when he describes the female, the scenes flow switch from them to an edit of her as he raps, "Shawty got mad potential/ I see it/Daddy full Black, but her mama Korean/She know I'm gettin' money from the cars that I be in/Young rich nigga, but the shoes European." Throughout the video, as the bop continues, a comic feature is added and becomes cinematic, creating an attention-to-detail feel while having a memorable experience.

Listening to 'Make Up Your Mind,' Cordae takes us on a musical ride while perfectly describing the indecisive feeling in relationships that often question our human connections towards each other. From beginning to end, the beat makes listeners feel the song's soul within as their body reacts, dancing to the rhythm of the bass and piano. His singing and rapping flow is immaculate as he pushes his boundaries in his new flow, representing his dedication to his music by crafting a different muse. Some may even notice the influence of Anderson.Paak.

Cordae continues to reveal his artistry in 'Make Up Your Mind,' making him flexible in the music industry and becoming beyond just any artist as he excelled in his single and music video, making us want more.
