Meet Whit, a Musical Artist from St. Louis

Hi, my name is Jerry Whitney Joseph but you can call me “Whit.” and do not forget the period! I am a Haitian-American independent musical artist from Saint Louis, Missouri. I write, sing, produce, engineer, and could be writing your next favorite song. Catch me on all your favorite streaming platforms!

Q: What are you most excited about, with your new EP that you are dropping?

With my new EP “Demo Disk”, I am most excited for people to learn of my versatility. I am a person who can not just make the same sound over and over my tastes change constantly and I think the EP will reflect that much in each song

Q: What are three things you would like the world to know about you, as an artist, that some might not know?

1 . Saint Louis has a lot of great artists and I mean more than NELLY. We got some amazing artists coming up really making big moves in songwriting, production, etc. Be on the look out for us, do not count the city out!

2. I am an artist not a celebrity. I do not aspire to be a celebrity just, to be heard. I am not sure for the future but at the moment reach out or approach me if you wanna show love or support it is always going to surprise me when I meet someone who likes my stuff

3. Music and songwriting are just one of my passions you might see me out here shooting videos or posting digital art from time to time. I am a bit scatter brained so whatever I wake up feeling like doing that day I run with it

Q: What do you like about bringing people on to feature in your music? How do you decide who you would like to bring on?

Featuring is something of a form of mutual respect for me. If we both like each others songs and respect each others process we good and we are gonna work. Outside of my core group of mutual artist friends I have not worked with many people because I can see their process or tell how serious they take it. If I bring you on a song I have to know you are putting your all in it, and with strangers it is hard to know.

Q: When working on a new song, do you like to search out a beat before or do you like to write something out first?

I write a lot of songs before I find production or produce. A good number of songs and verses of mine were written first with a beat or artist in mind and then in that the beat is either made to fit or if I like a beat enough I make the song fit

Q: How would you describe your sound, to your music?

Modern. Very much a sound of the times. As I look forward it will change but at the moment I am very in the moment musically because I love the sounds I hear in popular music now.

Q: What would you say is the best way to promote your music, other than social media? How about your shows?

Word of mouth. You got to get people talking both on and off social media. You must be able to get your name out there without the phone. That is the only way for you cement yourself in peoples minds. It is the same for the shows. Online fans are great but when it comes to shows unless it is a livestream you gotta get posters out, do some open mics, and make yourself visible in the city

Q: Would you ever want to do your own rendition to a song? If so what song would you choose?

Tough ass question, I am gonna end up saying three songs. I would probably remake Dark Red by Steve Lacy or 90210 by Travis Scott. Now if I am really trying to rap then I gotta hop on Exhibit C by Jay Electronica.

Q: What kind of merchandise can your following purchase, to support? Where can they find this?

Currently I have hoodies and shirts available on my merch site, with a new line coming very soon including some hats, shirts, and a set of sweats
