Chicago Born,LA Based Artist: SHI

Q: What did you want to be as an adult when you were young?

A: I actually wanted to play in the NBA! I grew up in Chicago for the Jordan era, that was the vibe back then.

Q: What is one thing you love about music and the industry?

A: I love that it is a universal language that transcends to all cultures. I love the fact that u can turn off the lights, spark a candle, and zone out. I love that I can make whatever I want to make, talk about what I want to talk about, vent, talk shit, and just do me.  It turns every messed up event, relationship, or life experience into beauty. You will definitely catch that vibe off “Let It Go”on an upcoming EP. The industry on the other hand is ehh, you really have to find your tribe.

Q: What is one thing you hate about music?

A: The one thing I hate as a creator is the pull from listeners to executives to chase trends. I just do not have it in me. I like to catch my own vibe in the studio and be free to express however I am feeling.

Q: What is one piece of advice you would give to an up and coming artist like yourself?

A: This business is all about endurance. Stick with it and be consistent. Don’t overthink it if your music is dope… it's dope and the cream always rises to the top.

Q: Where does your inspiration stem from with your music?

A: All my inspiration comes from how I am feeling. Every song is a moment in time captured through lyrics and music. I tell stories and talk about how I feel whether it is people or situations.

Q: Where is somewhere you would like to perform in your city and outside your city?

A: Like any artist in a major city selling out the biggest stadium is always the dream so the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Outside the city I would say anywhere overseas. I love to travel, chill, and connect with people from other cultures and outside of this country.

Q: If you could work with a clothing, music, or entertainment company what would it be and why?

A: I would love to collaborate with G Star. The designs perfectly represent me as a person and an artist, rugged and refined. Not sure about an entertainment company because I love the freedom and power that’s been given back to the artists today! I'd love to get into scoring for movies because I enjoy making cinematic music that paints a picture through sound.

Q: Where does your inspiration come from in your videos?

A: The inspiration comes from the lyrics and mood of the music. I am still working on my videos for my EP “Broken Generation”, dropping on November 18th. They are taking forever! I am a perfectionist. I probably got to chill on that a little bit and let everybody grow with me.

Q: If you could move anywhere where would you go and why?

A: I am not sure yet, I have only been to a handful of countries and still want to experience as many as possible but for right now I love Los Angeles. It is definitely home for me.

Q: What is something you would like the public to know about yourself?

A: I am honest and real. I do not make shit up in my music which you will be able to hear the transparency all throughout my upcoming EP, “Broken Generation”. Also, to all of my fans do not be shy, despite of my name. I am not shy and I love to hear from my fans!
