Philip Johnson producer, actor, and more.

I am Philip Johnson, a Black LGBTQ+ filmmaker based in Hollywood! I'm 25 and from Detroit, Michigan originally, with a Business degree from the University of Michigan. I'm the CEO of Philaye Films!

Q: What is the Flip Flop Show and some of the other projects you have going on? How can fans be a part of the experience?

A: "Flip Flop" is a scripted comedy series about sexual fluidity in the toxically masculine sports world. It has been picked up by Brandon TV Studios, and Season 1 goes into production this summer!

I am also producing "Ambition", a Black drama series created by Destiny Cole, "Delo After Dark" late-night talk show & "Keep It On The Delo" black dramedy short film, "The Unhinged", a Black LGBTQ+ psychological thriller short film, "Maybe Next Christmas", a Black women Christmas short film, 2 sketch comedy shows, along with several other projects. Fans can be apart by following on Instagram (@Philaye) and Twitter (@PhilayeFilms) to keep updated on all the upcoming projects!

Q: What do you like most about filming? What do you like and dislike to film?

A: I love the laughs we share on set most. We have a fun time together, even though it is stressful! I love filming anything I get the opportunity to film honestly. I have not yet experienced anything I do not like to film!

Q: Out of all the roles, Producer/Actor/Writer/Director, what is your favorite? Why?

A: I never had a definitive answer for this until recently during the pandemic. The producer is my favorite role because it caters perfectly to my Business background. It is the glue connecting all of the other pieces. I love that Producing allows me to help many people propel their projects and careers. I love the impact of it!

Q: What is the best piece of advice anybody has given to you? What piece of advice would you give out?

A: The best advice I have gotten has really just been to stay consistent. I would give this same advice to anyone pursuing a creative career because your pursuit and hard work have to stay relentless even on days that you do not feel progress. Over time, that consistency leads to all the results you dreamt of!

Q: Who is your inspiration within the industry? How about outside the industry?

A: Issa Rae is my biggest inspiration within the industry. I watched Awkward Black Girl in high school, and have watched her build her empire/career ever since. Her innovative business moves inspire me every day! Outside the industry, my mom would have to be my biggest inspiration because she has focused on spreading light and love with her nonprofit work since before I was even born.

Q: What do you like about living in Los Angeles?

A: I love EVERYTHING about living in LA! The weather, nature, the beach, the nightlife, the views, the mountains, the palm trees, etc. Everything except being far away from my family in Detroit.

Q: What is the main goal that you have for your career? Where would you like to take it?

A: My main goal is to spread love and positive vibes through my projects and work. I plan to be one of the studio heads who can offer passionate creatives opportunities to do what they love and get paid for it, and I plan to release high volumes of shows and films that make people feel good.

Q: What can you tell fans about what you are working on now?

A: I can tell fans that I am working on over a dozen projects, so get ready for an overload of Philaye art within these next years! I plan to cover several genres and never limit myself, and the current projects on Philaye Films' slate reflect that.

Q: Do you think it is important to interact with your fans? Why or why not?

A: YES! My fans feel the loving vibes from my content, so they send love to me. And I send all that love right back to them because staying humble and down-to-Earth ensures that you leave the world as a place with more love than it had when you came.
