Jodeci Milhouse
Hey! What’s up, everyone. My name is Jodeci Milhouse and I am an independent R&B/Pop artist from Northern Virginia.
Q: Can you describe the three titles you have set for yourself, in your career? What do you do in regards to each one, songwriter, singer, and entertainer?
A: The three titles I have given myself in my career are the best way I can describe all that I do and what makes me an artist. I write my own music and then sing it myself as a recording and performing artist. I chose to describe myself as an entertainer as well because in my opinion, it is the most important and most fun part of my artistry. I love to bring my music to life through performance and entertaining people brings me the most joy. I think it also encompasses all that I am and all that I can do in the best way possible.
Q: What can you tell readers about 1993? What is your favorite song from the album?
A: 1993 is my latest EP and is very near and dear to my heart. I named it 1993 because it’s the closest I could get to a self-titled project, which I am saving for my first album. It is the most honest and vulnerable body of work I have ever released. I really feel it shows the many facets of me! My favorite song right now on the project is “New Me”. But honestly, my favorite song changes depending on my mood!
Q: How do you bring fun into a, sometimes, serious environment?
A: It is funny you ask this because I am definitely the person usually trying to bring some kind of light to situations. I love making people smile and I am a really silly person. So, if there’s a way I can bring joy to others, whether it be through humor or just my quirky personality, I’m doing it.
Q: Where did the idea come from for the cover art, for 1993?
A: The idea of the cover art for 1993 actually came through meditation. It was revealed to me. Before that, I really had no idea what direction I wanted to go in or what the next era of my visuals looked like for me.

Q: How do you keep your content up to date? What is one thing you struggle with creating new content and keeping it relevant?
A: Honestly, sometimes keeping my content up to date is a struggle! But, I try to post at least 2-3 times a week and I am always pretty active in my story posts. I find that it can be a struggle to fully immerse myself in my work and real-life experiences and find time to share it. There is always a new trend going on! If I am feeling creative and have the time I love to jump in on them and have some fun. Other than that, I try to keep it pretty honest and authentic and post as frequently as I can. I recognize the importance of social media and what it means. But, I do not let it consume me.
Q: What was your favorite part about going on tour last year? What are your plans when everything is lifted, social distancing-wise?
A: I went on tour in 2019 and it was one of the most fun and fulfilling experiences. I love performing and I really come alive on stage. So, there was nothing like getting to do that over and over again in different cities. I enjoyed getting to see and meet so many new people. When everything is lifted I plan on getting right back out there. Following whatever the safest protocols and mandates of course! Until then, I am working on filmed and live virtual performances.
Q: What is the preparation like with making a video? How long do you practice the choreography?
A: The preparation for making a music video is very extensive. Especially as an independent artist! There are so many moving parts and things that have to happen that you would not usually even consider. It takes months of planning. Things like learning choreography is the easy part for me! I had three rehearsals that totaled to about 6.5 hours of practice.
Q: Are there any goals you have set for yourself for the new year?
A: My biggest goal this year is to break and go mainstream. I would love to share my art on a larger platform and have the opportunity to share and influence new people. It is my ultimate dream and I am ready!
Q: What do you like most about getting pictures taken of yourself? Is there anything you do not like?
A: I like the finished product the most! Getting photographed is not usually something I love doing. But, with what I do it is obviously very necessary! I try to remember it is another way for people to get to know me because they are getting to see my face and my vision. Once I’m in the room and warmed up I try to just relax, have fun, and treat it like a performance. You have to learn how to turn it on! When I am locked in and in my zone, I feel the most like me.
Q: How does meditation help you in life? How do you remain focused and not get distracted?
A: My spirituality and meditation is very important to me. It is how I check in with myself. I think it is very easy these days to be influenced and dependent upon outside sources and it can make life and thinking on your own tough to sift through. Mediation is the best way for me to stay in touch with my true self and my authentic uninfluenced thoughts and feelings. I have been meditating for quite a while so it’s become easy to tap into that state. I can do it pretty much anywhere. But I just release resistance and let my thoughts come and go as they please.
