Jae Lynx - “Mimosa”

At just two minutes long, Jae Lynx’s song “Mimosa” and accompanying video don’t take long to draw you in. The video exudes west coast vibes, with orange slices and beach waves serving as backdrops and transitions from one shot to the next. Jae Lynx is young and up-and-coming, and his potential shines in this one. He exudes confidence in each frame of the video, from singing to the camera to dancing in silhouette on the beach to pouring mimosas from an orange juice carton into the sand. The video itself plays with visual effects that play with the lyrics of the song—besides the orange slices skittering across the scene, there are sparks flying around his silhouette, blue outlines framing him and his girl as they clasp hands and dance together, and frequent shots of Jae Lynx in double or triple vision. Aptly named, this video is like a fresh sip of citrus, its beach scenes and orange sunset a reminder of summer warmth and freedom from responsibility.

Besides the fiery visuals, the song itself is intoxicating. The lyrics, written in the second person, speak to a girl he’s involved with: “You no nothing I’m getting’ over / Baby, I need you a little closer / Come over, come over.” There’s an affection in the lyrics that pairs well with the upbeat pace of the song, its strong and smooth vocals delivering the lines with ease. The repetition of “come closer” traces throughout the song but never feels overworked—it stays fresh, just like the rest of the song. As a young artist with talent beyond his years, Jae Lynx proves in “Mimosa” that his future is bright and he’s well worth your attention.
